Soft Mark

This project is a website that transforms a voice into a scannable waveform sticker, allowing others to discover and remember a person.

This project explores how personal memories can be preserved and shared in everyday life beyond traditional memorial formats. While people often hold onto voices and small details of someone they have lost, there are few ways to carry and encounter these memories naturally. Soft Mark transforms a voice recording into a scannable waveform sticker that can be worn on the body. By scanning it, others can access a simple page that introduces the person through images, details, and a short story, allowing memory to exist as something both personal and quietly shareable.

“I wanted it to feel like something you carry, not something you visit, just enough to feel like someone was there.”

Reflection

This project began as an exploration of alternative QR code forms, but shifted toward using voice as the core. Instead of symbolic markers, I focused on translating personal memory into something more direct, turning voice recordings into visual waveforms. Working with Figma Make pushed me to think more clearly about structure and interaction before generating layouts, reinforcing the importance of direction when using AI tools. If developed further, I would explore how the system could better support how memories are shared and encountered in everyday life.

Users upload a voice recording of someone they’ve lost to generate a unique waveform design. They can then add a short story and personal details, giving the wearable piece a deeper sense of memory and meaning.

Others can scan the custom sticker to access a simple page that shares the person’s story. After reading, they can light a small candle, a quiet gesture of acknowledgment. Inspired by the idea that those who pass away become stars, this interaction becomes a subtle way of saying, “I remember you.”
